Remnants of Tropical Cyclone Megan Bring Flood Risks to Southeast Australia

 In Event News

The remnants of Tropical Cyclone Megan are poised to soak parts of southeast Australia during the Easter long weekend, bringing heavy rains and storms across several states. Authorities have warned about potential flooding and road closures, particularly in northern regions. Impacted states, including South Australia, New South Wales (NSW), and Victoria, are preparing for significant downpours from Cyclone Megan’s remnants and a southward-moving low-pressure system from the Northern Territory and Queensland. Meteorologists anticipate thunderstorms and intense rainfall, with some areas expecting up to 100mm, likely to affect South Australia, western NSW, and northwest Victoria.

Over 40 rivers in Queensland and the Northern Territory (NT) are under flood watch, covering areas in southwest Queensland, the Cape York Peninsula, and parts of the Gulf Country. Record-breaking rainfall has been observed in several NT locations, marking it as one of their wettest months.
