Tornadoes and Hailstorms Wreaked Havoc across the Central US from Mar 12 to 15

 In Event News

The weather across the central United States turned tumultuous last week, unleashing hundreds of severe thunderstorms over several days. The same system that dumped up to five feet of snow in Colorado also generated countless severe thunderstorms from Wednesday to Friday across the central U.S.

Last Thursday witnessed a severe weather onslaught that spread from the Southern Plains and Midwest to the Ohio Valley, producing numerous tornadoes and extensive damage across several states.

Significant destruction was noted in Lakeview, Midway, Orchard Island, and Russel’s Point. The National Weather Service confirmed an EF-2 tornado that ravaged Logan County, while EF-1 tornadoes struck Licking and western Mercer counties, among a total of 14 tornadoes across seven states. In Winchester, Indiana, a possible tornado caused significant damage, flattening some structures in the city near the Ohio border.

Tuesday, Mar 12, night’s hail reports surged to over 100 by Wednesday. Swarms of severe storms erupted on Thursday afternoon and evening from the southern Plains to the Ozark Mountains, the middle Mississippi Valley, and the Ohio Valley. Ada, Oklahoma, recorded a staggering 5.25-inch hailstone, larger than a grapefruit, causing significant vehicle damage in Missouri.

The severe weather from March 12-15 resulted in over 17 confirmed tornadoes confirmed so far.
