4.8 Magnitude Earthquake Shakes United States East Coast

 In Event News

The East Coast of the United States experienced a magnitude 4.8 earthquake on Friday morning. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake, which had its epicenter near Whitehouse Station, New Jersey, was felt from Boston to Baltimore at 10:23 a.m. ET. The earthquake sent shockwaves through major cities, including New York City, where the tremors persisted for over 30 seconds.

Despite the widespread alarm, initial reports have not indicated any significant damage or injuries. However, the earthquake caused buildings to sway and left residents from Maryland to Maine on edge. The earthquake’s epicenter was pinpointed approximately 45 miles west of New York City and 40 miles east of Allentown, Pennsylvania, situating it in a densely populated corridor of the Northeast.

Tremors from the earthquake reached far and wide, affecting neighboring states such as New Jersey, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania and extending as far as Cambridge, Massachusetts, about 250 miles from the epicenter.  The Federal Aviation Administration issued ground stops at Newark Liberty International Airport and John F. Kennedy International Airport, highlighting the quake’s immediate impact on infrastructure and daily activities.
