Tropical Storm Ana kicks off the 2021 season
Ana formed early morning on May 22, becoming the first named storm of the 2021 Atlantic hurricane season. It is the seventh year in a row in which a named storm has formed prior to the start of the season – which officially begins on June 1.
Ana intensified from a Subtropical storm to a tropical storm within 24 hours and then rapidly lost its intensity and turned to a tropical depression on May 23. Ana is currently headed northeast of Bermuda with maximum sustained winds of 40 mph and is expected to dissipate in the Atlantic Ocean without posing a threat to mainland.
