Tornado Tears through New Orleans, Leaves Thousands Without Power
According to the NWS, a “large and extremely dangerous tornado” hit the New Orleans area on Tuesday. There are reports of some damage in Arabi and the Lower Ninth Ward. However, no significant damage has been reported so far. The NWS reported the tornado moved through a portion of St. Bernard Parish and neighboring Orleans Parish. A twister moved through the Lower Ninth Ward that caused power outages in the region. Two tornadoes were reported in St. Tammany Parish.
Reportedly, more than 10,000 residents faced power outage in Orleans and St. Bernard Parish.
As per the NWS, overall damage assessment and surveys that determine tornado’s intensity and path could take several days.
The event started on Monday, when a strong storm system brought 25 tornadoes to Texas, including the two that have damaged or completely destroyed around 1000 homes. The storm system is spawning more twisters as it tracks east.
