Severe Storms Cause Massive Damage in Texas, Likely to Hit US South Today

On Monday night, dozens of buildings and homes were severely damaged as multiple severe storms and tornadoes tore through Texas. As per the National Weather Service, there were around 20 reports of tornadoes across Oklahoma and Texas.  Areas such as Round Rock, Jacksboro, Crockett, and Madisonville in Texas, likely suffered the most damage from suspected tornadoes.

Around 80 homes and businesses in Jack County are reportedly damaged or completely destroyed. However, there were no serious injuries reported. 

The NWS issued a tornado watch for parts of central and northern Texas on Monday. Around 14 million residents of Austin, Dallas and San Antonio, were under the watch. As of early Tuesday, more than 54,000 residents faced power outages in Texas – largely in the Houston area. 

Severe Storms to Hit US South Today

Going forward, the severe weather outbreak will track across the Deep South on Tuesday. Damaging winds, tornadoes and hail are likely from Louisiana into Mississippi and Alabama, to the Florida Panhandle. More than 8.5 million residents were under tornado watch. There is a possibility that some tornadoes could also be long-tracked.

Flooding and heavy rain in some areas are also possible, mostly in portions of the Ohio Valley into the South. Hail up to 1.5 inches in diameter and wind gusts to 75 mph are possible.  Major cities that may face the storm’s path include New Orleans, Jackson, Memphis, Birmingham and Houston.
