Tornadoes Sweep Through US South and Midwest, Causing Massive Damage to Property
The severe weather outbreak that marched through US South on Wednesday has moved strongly into Thursday with multiple reports of storm damage and tornadoes. The storms included at least two confirmed tornadoes that destroyed businesses and houses, powerlines in Mississippi and Tennessee after leaving a trail of destruction in Arkansas, Missouri and Texas before moving to the Deep South.
As per the NWS in Tulsa, the tornado that hit Springdale, Arkansas on Wednesday morning was rated an EF3 with 145 mph winds.
As of Thursday morning, around 185,000 residents were without power in portions of Alabama, Mississippi, Kentucky, Ohio and Tennessee.
Authorities in Florida confirmed impact from a likely tornado that struck near the town of Alford in the Florida Panhandle. Strong winds and severe storms including few tornadoes are possible across a swath of the East Coast. As per the NWS, wind gusts over 40 mph or higher will hit states from Florida, Georgia, and portions of Ohio, New York, creating chances of severe damage.
