Damaging Winds, Rainfall and Tornadoes Possible, as Severe Thunderstorm Likely to Impact the US South

An outbreak of severe thunderstorms is expected to sweep through the US South today, bringing destructive winds, large hail, heavy rain and tornadoes. Parts of Texas, Arkansas and Missouri are already facing severe storms and rainfall. 

The SPC, NOAA has issued a tornado watch from portions of Missouri into Arkansas and Northern Louisiana, Texas and southeast Oklahoma. There are few reports of structural damage from a likely tornado in Springdale, Arkansas earlier today. 

As per NOAA, the storms are likely to intensify through the day as they move eastward. Strong to severe storms could hit areas from Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida Panhandle, Tennessee, into Indiana and central Kentucky. Furthermore, Storms could extend as far east as Georgia and Tennessee by late Wednesday into Thursday. 

Widespread damaging winds, hail and tornadoes are possible. Wind gusts over 75 mph are expected over some areas, strong tornadoes (EF2 or greater) are possible. Heavy rainfall may lead to localized flooding in parts of the Midwest and South. 

The threat of severe weather from this storm will likely be over by Friday.
