Hurricane Dorian Impact Summary – Dorian, a category 5 storm, became the most powerful tropical cyclone ever to hit the Bahamas. Peak wind speeds reached 185 mph. The Abaco Islands were hit by Dorian on September 1. After a few hours, the storm reached Elbow Cay in the Bahamas. After weakening significantly, Dorian started to move northwestward on September 3 parallel to Florida’s east coast.

Dorian, which is thought to have cost $5.1 billion in total in damage, is the most expensive disaster in Bahamian history. Thousands of homes were damaged in the Bahamas as a result of torrential rain, strong winds, and storm surge.

Wednesday | August 28th, 2019 | Tropical storm Dorian formed – On Sunday, Aug 24, and is expected to gain hurricane strength when it nears the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico, late Wednesday. On Thursday, Dorian is expected to pass to the east of Turks and Caicos and the southeastern Bahamas, and near or to the east of central and northwestern Bahamas on Friday and Saturday.
