7.5 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Japan’s West Coast, Tsunami Warnings Issued

 In Event News

On Monday afternoon, a 7.5 magnitude earthquake struck the west coast of Japan, followed by 60 recorded tremors. Japan’s weather agency warned that these could continue for a few days. The earthquake hit the Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa, causing building collapses, igniting fires, and triggering tsunami warnings that extended to eastern Russia.

The quake prompted tsunami warnings, heightening fears of further devastation. On Monday, Tsunami waves of up to 1.2 meters (4 feet) hit several areas along the country’s western coast. The aftermath reveals a grim scene of damaged infrastructure, including disrupted highways and power outages to more than 36,000 homes near the epicentre. This severe seismic event has once again highlighted Japan’s vulnerability to natural disasters, being situated in a high-risk zone.
