Fast-spreading Wildfires in Florida Panhandle Continue to Grow

According to the news by  CNN, several fast-moving wildfires in the Florida Panhandle have consumed more than 15,000 acres of land and forced evacuation of at least 1,100 homes.

As per the authorities, the Bertha Swamp Road Fire, expanded over the weekend to 14, 000 acres. So far, it is only 10% contained. As per the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, the Bertha Swamp Road Fire originated in the Gulf County, has expanded into neighboring Bay and Calhoun counties – east of Panama City. Florida has declared a state of emergency to include all three counties.

Another wildfire, the Adkins Avenue fire in the Bay County, completely destroyed two homes and damaged more than 12 homes. The wildfire started on Friday, is now contained more than 50%,

The NWS in Tallahassee reported that the Bertha Swamp Road fire is burning near where the eye of 2018 Hurricane Michael had passed. Hurricane Michael was a Category 5 storm that had left 2.8 million acres of trees uprooted and broken. The damage from the hurricane is hampering the firefighting efforts.
