 In Event News

On Saturday, more than 12 wildfires were burning in Arizona and New Mexico, destroying dozens of homes and covering more than 174 square miles. High winds started on Friday posed a concern as two fires merged and quadrupled in size to a combined 66 square miles in mountains and grassland in northern New Mexico.

According to the local authorities, the wildfires burned some structures, however, figures are not available yet. Around 500 houses in San Miguel, including rural areas of  Mora have been issued evacuation orders. As per the NWS, on Friday, fire danger in the Denver area was the highest it had been over a decade due to unseasonable temperatures combined with strong winds and dry conditions.

In Arizona, a Flagstaff-area fire burned around 30 houses and numerous other buildings. In northern New Mexico, winds on Friday gusted up to 75 mph, pushing flames through the Sangre de Cristo Mountains in the north.  On Saturday, other areas were ordered to evacuate because another large fire continues to grow in northern New Mexico included Philmont Scout Ranch.
