Typhoon Nesat Expected to Bring Rainfall as it Nears Hong Kong

 In Event News

According to the Hong Kong Observatory (HKO), Typhoon Nesat is moving closer to the city and is expected to intensify. The Observatory has issued a Wind Signal No 3 today, forecasting winds with mean speeds of 41 to 62 Km/h.

The newly formed tropical cyclone is moving westwards over the South China Sea. Presently, Typhoon Nesat’s center is located about 370 km south-east of Hong Kong, and 600 km east of Hainan Island, with maximum sustained winds of 148 km/h.

As per the HKO, strong northerly winds, occasionally gale force on high ground, are possible. Moderate rainfall is expected over coastal areas of China in the South China Sea, while moderate to heavy rainfall is expected over Hainan.

The residents are advised to stay clear from the shoreline and not engage in water sports.

Typhoon Nesat is expected to continue moving over the South China Sea and pass the south of Hainan by Wednesday. Post that, it will likely downgrade to a tropical storm and make landfall over northern Vietnam by the end of the week.
