Early on Friday, Tropical Storm Bret pounded the eastern Caribbean islands with strong winds and a deluge of rain capable of causing floods and hazardous sea conditions. Powerful winds of 44 mph with gusts up to 56 mph were recorded at Barbados’ Grantly Adams International Airport, well to the east of Bret’s center. Tropical storm conditions were also reported in St. Lucia and Martinique. 

The storm could bring 3 to 6 inches of rainfall to parts of the eastern Caribbean from Guadeloupe to Barbados and St. Vincent and the Grenadines until Saturday. Some areas may experience up to 10 inches of rain. After passing through the Lesser Antilles, Bret is predicted to weaken further into the Caribbean Sea and dissipate by Saturday.

On Monday, tropical storm Bret developed in the central Atlantic Ocean and is anticipated to strengthen into a hurricane by Wednesday. Currently, the storm has sustained winds of 40 mph and is rapidly moving westward.
