Tropical Storm Arlene Forms in Gulf of Mexico, First Named Storm of 2023 Atlantic Hurricane Season: Actionable Insights on EigenPrism

 In Event News

On Friday, a depression in the Gulf of Mexico intensified into Tropical Storm Arlene, the first named storm of the 2023 Atlantic hurricane season. It was located approximately 170 miles west of the Dry Tortugas with sustained winds of around 40 mph.

It is projected that the storm will continue its southward trajectory and potentially weaken into a remnant low by Saturday, eventually dissipating by Sunday. Portions of Florida are expected to receive heavy rainfall over the weekend, although the National Hurricane Center said that this precipitation is not directly associated with the depression. At present, there are no coastal watches or warnings in effect.

The depression first developed on Thursday, officially starting the Atlantic hurricane season of 2023.
