Torrential Rains Brings Flash Flooding Threat in the Southern US

 In Event News

The southern United States, particularly Texas and Louisiana, is facing severe flash flooding threats due to torrential rains exceeding the typical monthly average rainfall. The flooding risk extends across a wide area, affecting from eastern Texas to southern Arkansas, with a strong possibility of causing disruption and dangers.

In Texas, areas like College Station have recorded nearly 6 inches of rain, far surpassing the usual 3 inches for January. The threat of flash floods will continue into Thursday, with forecasters warning of localized rainfall totals in the 10 – 12 inch range.

More than 38 million people are under flood watches, and another 2 million are under flood warnings, mostly from Texas to Georgia and Tennessee. Urban flash flooding and river flooding are major concerns, with major rivers like the Trinity, San Jacinto, and Navidad in southeastern Texas expected to rise to a major flood stage.
