Devastating Storms and Tornadoes Cause Destruction in South and Midwest US: Assess the Impact

 In Event News

On Friday and Saturday, devastating storms and violent tornadoes leveled entire communities in the South and Midwest US. There have been over 50 preliminary tornado reports in at least seven states, including Arkansas. As of now, 22 people are confirmed dead. In Little Rock, the path of a tornado impacted more than 2,600 properties and impacted at least 2,100 residents. Hail and winds of up to 50mph also devastated the roof of the Apollo Theater in Belvedere, Illinois. Other tornadoes flattened neighborhoods and commercial businesses, hurling vehicles through the air. Arkansas alone reported at least a dozen tornadoes.

As of Saturday afternoon, more than 34,000 people were still without power in the state, according to poweroutage.us. Some houses in Wynne, home to around 8,000 residents, were reduced to piles of wood, while others had their roofs ripped off, revealing storm debris scattered inside the homes.
