Severe Thunderstorms in Michigan and Ohio Cause Nearly 700,000 Power Outages: Actionable Insights on EigenPrism

On early Friday, severe thunderstorms hit parts of Michigan and Ohio, causing power outages for around 700,000 homes and businesses. The storms brought heavy rains, strong winds, and even a confirmed “extremely dangerous” tornado in Ingham County.  

The storms advanced from southern Michigan into Ohio, carrying the potential for forceful wind gusts reaching up to 85 mph, hail measuring up to 1.5 inches in diameter, and the possibility of tornadoes.

Vehicles on Interstate 96 were overturned as a result of the conditions. 400,000 people were left without electricity in southern Michigan in addition to nearly 300,000 in northern Ohio. A forceful 70 mph gust was reported in Detroit.
