Tropical Storm Colin Develops Near the Coast of South Carolina
This holiday weekend, Tropical Storm Colin is churning close to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, sending bands of rain and blustery gusts into the coastal Carolinas. On Friday, a circulation that sent bands of rain along Georgia’s coast developed into Colin early on Saturday morning over South Carolina.
There is little risk from destructive winds because Colin is onshore and the possibility of intensification is relatively low. But as bands of rain move closer to the coast, strong gusts will accompany them.
Bands of violent rain will travel across these beaches throughout the weekend. A further 1 to 2 inches of rain, with isolated periods of up to 4 inches, is anticipated.
A tropical storm warning is in force from the South Santee River in South Carolina to Duck, North Carolina, and for Pamlico Sound, where gusts are anticipated to approach 40 mph this weekend in those tropical rainbands. Plans for the Fourth of July weekend in the eastern Carolinas will be impacted by this storm.
