New Wave of Brutal Winter Weather Sweeps Across the US
The United States is bracing for another round of severe winter weather following a series of winter storms that already had a devastating effect across 10 states. As the country recovers from the coldest air of the winter, both coasts are now facing fresh winter storms, with another surge of cold air expected to develop around the central and eastern regions by the weekend.
The Northwest is now facing a third storm, with freezing rain and heavy snow expected in the Cascades. This ongoing severe weather is causing additional ice accumulation, posing further risks of snapping tree limbs and damaging power lines. Wind chills are expected to plunge back to dangerous levels, increasing the risk of frostbite and hypothermia.
Meanwhile, another round of snow is set to cover parts of the Midwest and East on Friday. Cities like Chicago will begin seeing snow as early as Thursday night, with the interior Northeast and central Appalachians also expecting accumulations. Snowfall amounts are predicted to be around 1 to 3 inches from the Midwest to the East, with some areas possibly seeing up to half a foot. Philadelphia, in particular, could receive between 4 and 6 inches of snow, a significant amount for the city
