New Mexico wildfires Spread Rapidly, Causes Destruction to Property
On Tuesday, New Mexico was under critical fire threat as two fires, the Calf Canyon fire and the Hermit Peak fire, combined and burned more than 145, 000 acres of land. It also prompted the evacuation of thousands of residents in the area.
The Hermit Peak wildfire started on April 6, while the Calf Canyon fire started on April 19. The combined blaze has caused a trail of destruction to property and homes. Near San Miguel County, the fire’s rapid spread prompted evacuation orders. So far, it is only 20% contained. Due to the fire threat, residents in and around Las Vegas were also issued evacuation orders.
Other large fires continue to burn in different regions of the state – including Bear Trap fire in the southwest. Parts of Colorado and Arizona are also witnessing wildfire destruction.
