TS Eta will make landfall in Cuba before heading towards Southern Florida
Tracking Eta:
Hurricane Eta– one of the fiercest storms to hit Central America in years struck Nicaragua as a Category 4 hurricane on Nov. 3, with winds of 150 mph. Eta weakened to a tropical depression as it moved inland across Honduras and then made a sharp turn towards Cayman Islands and Cuba on Nov 6.
Storm Activity: 11/7/2020
Currently, Eta has strengthened into a tropical storm with a wind speed of 60mph and is located west-northwest of Grand Cayman. The storm is headed towards a landfall in central Cuba on Sunday. Further strengthening is expected over the next 24 hours.
Heavy rainfall is expected which could lead to life-threatening flash floods and landslides in areas with higher terrain. A dangerous storm surge threat of 2 to 4 feet is also forecast along the coast of Cuba over the weekend.
Forecast Storm Activity: 11/9/2020 – 11/11/2020
Eta is expected to track towards the Florida Keys on Monday. Currently, a tropical storm watch is in effect for South Florida, including the Florida Keys. Eta will bring heavy rain, tropical-storm-force winds, and dangerous storm surge to coastal areas of Southern Florida.
