EF-1 Tornado Strikes Southeast of Los Angeles, Causing Significant Damage
On Wednesday, a tornado struck southeast of Los Angeles. The National Weather Service confirmed that the tornado briefly touched down in the industrial park and warehouse district of Montebello, and classified it as an EF-1 tornado with peak winds of 110 mph.
The Los Angeles region has not had a tornado of this strength since 1983. The twister damaged at least 17 buildings, uprooted a healthy pine tree with a 1-foot diameter trunk, snapped a power pole, ejected an HVAC unit from the top of one building, broke skylights, in addition to damaging cars and other structures.
