Cyclone Sitrang brings Torrential Rain to Bangladesh and India

 In Event News

On the night of October 25, Cyclone Sitrang plowed into Bangladesh affecting highly populated regions. It had winds of up to 55mph and  storm surge of about 10ft that flooded low-lying coastal regions. Telephone and electricity lines were completely severed in coastal regions due to the storm.

After entering Bangladesh, Sitrang degraded into a low-pressure zone and is gradually moving towards northeastern India. The storm system has already caused heavy rainfall in Assam and damaged several houses in the central Assam district’s Kaliabor, Bamuni, Sakmuthia tea estate, and Boraligaon neighborhoods.

It is further expected to bring moderate to heavy rainfall in Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram, and Tripura. The storm will most likely dissipate by the end of the day today.
