TD Choi-Wan makes a sixth landfall in the Philippines

TD Choi-Wan entered the Philippine area of responsibility(PAR) on May 30, becoming the country’s fourth tropical cyclone this season. It quickly intensified into a Tropical Storm within 12 hours and continued to track northwest, where it made its first landfall over Sulat, Eastern Samar at 8:30 PM (local time) on June 1. 

It turned into a tropical depression and continued tracking northwest and made 5 more landfalls across the country as of Wednesday morning, June 2 – second landfall over Cataingan, Masbate at 1 a.m(local time), third landfall over Balud, Masbate at 3:30 am(local time), Fourth landfall over Romblon at 8 am(local time), fifth landfall over San Agustin, Romblon at 8:50 am(local time). Choi- Wan made its 6th landfall over Pola, Oriental Mindoro at 2 p.m. and is now headed towards the southwest areas in Batangas. 

Tropical depression Choi-Wan has caused a major damage to agricultural lands leaving 3 people dead.

Choi-Wan is forecast to strengthen further as it moves along the eastern Philippines through June 4. Choi-Wan is forecast to bring heavy rainfall, potentially damaging winds, landslides and rough seas to coastal areas of the eastern Philippines over the coming days.
