Damaging Atmospheric River in California Causes Risk of Severe Flooding and Mudslides

 In Event News

On Wednesday morning, another damaging atmospheric river struck California, bringing heavy rain and hurricane force winds to the region. The storm severely damaged the electrical infrastructure, cutting electricity to about 160,000 homes and businesses. In addition, a tornado warning was issued for Ventura County.

Due to the existing saturated soil conditions, the National Weather Service issued a warning of more flooding and mudslides. Maximum wind gusts during the storm reached up to 75 mph, which significantly increases the risk of falling trees, and power lines.

Southern California is expected to be the hardest hit, with the potential for 1 to 4 inches of rain through Thursday. In the Sierra Nevada and Southern California mountains, the storm could result in 3 to 4 feet of snow, which may strain infrastructure and make travel difficult. The weather conditions are expected to clear up gradually on Thursday.
